Speaking about “wild”, don’t ask me what’s going on with these characters’ hairdos. They keep getting crazier from one frame to the next, and I’m powerless to stop it.

Hopefully next year will see a lot more updates, perhaps even approaching a regular schedule? One can only hope [that one actually puts in the effort to make it so]!

In other news, don’t forget to go back to the first comic and check all the pages again, as they have been embiggened and embettered for your pleasure. Huh!

First of all, you might have noticed some changes around the site. Specifically the Book of Eris pages are now much larger, and everything has been enlarged to better fit around them. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, and the site’s current visitor stats say now it’s the right time since nearly everybody is on a screen 1280px wide or larger (much larger, sometimes). To the handful of visitors on 1024px (3% of you), I apologize for the extra scrolling; and to the even smaller (1.5%) group of visitors on older smartphones, well, I’m afraid your plight has just become slightly worse, sorry about that

Also, all the images have been retouched so they are clearer and brighter. It’s not just an increase in size, but in quality as well, hey!

On the webcomic front, do you know the grad-school-based comic Piled Higher and Deeper (PHD)? As it turns out, it now has a movie of its own. Apparently this makes it the first webcomic ever to be turned into a movie? My hat goes off to PHD’s creator Jorge Cham. It would be so cool if someone were to turn, say, Imaginary Daughter into a movie? They wouldn’t even had to as me for permission even if it was a commercial feature, as per its Creative Commons license. So… you know. *wink wink, nudge nudge*

In game-related news and following a previous post where I rambled on about my love of once-Nintendo-bound, now iOS-ready Touch Detective, I thought you should know that the sequel, Touch Detective 2 ½ has also been released on iOS. Sadly, it isn’t compatible with my aging iDevice, so I can’t tell you whether it’s better or worse than its original incarnation, though I do know it packs a bunch of extras for a fraction of its former price. Also it follows the “try for free” model so really, get the free chapters if you can, and you can then make an informed decision on whether or not to buy the rest.

Finally, I thought I’d make a plug for JManga, an online manga store that has recently started offering its products globally, giving english readers everywhere the chance to read manga unavailable elsewhere while supporting their favourite authors. The people behind JManga seem to be pretty cool as well, quickly answering your doubts and HOLY CRAP I JUST WON A HATSUNE MIKU NENDOROID IN ONE OF THEIR CONTESTS!!

Okay, maybe I just wanted to brag (?) a bit about that. In any case the service is quite good, the flash-based reader (with an iOS version on the way) is very nice, and the prices are fairly decent at around $5 per volume. If you are into manga you might want to look into it.

Ugh, a week+ delay right after I mentioned a schedule. I should just make a Fight Club-style rule to the effect of “the first rule of Pidepan is that you don’t talk about schedules.” Anyway, enjoy Mecha’s acrobatics. I don’t see how this could end badly.

Hello and welcome to Book of Eris, my new comic which is nothing like my previous one

BoE will be updated… hum… I don’t really know yet. Weekly, perhaps. Check again in a few days!

What I wanted to share with you now is (almost) totally unrelated to anything on this site. You see, one of my favourite Nintendo DS games has just been ported to iOS. Touch Detective is available now in Apple’s app store, and I want to link this game for various reasons; it’s a good game and it deserves the exposure, it’s a game that I think you might enjoy, and finally I hope the game does well enough to warrant the porting of the sequel and (dare I dream?) the creation of further chapters of the saga.

As for why I recommend this game to you, dear readers: it has an offbeat sense of humour and it features a bizarre world that you get to explore as you try to unravel the mysteries you are presented with. And although most of it is just wacky funny stuff (and there’s plenty of that), it also manages to pull at the heartstrings on occasion. In other words: if you enjoyed Imaginary Daughter, there is a rather good chance you will like Touch Detective as well.

Also the first chapter is free so just go ahead and give it a shot.

I’d be remiss not to mention that you can now get the printed version of Imaginary Daughter for the lowhefty price of $19.50 plus s+h. In the book you get everything that’s been posted here, plus a couple of illustrations, plus a bonus one-page comic, plus a 10-page “commentary track” by Father and Daughter that will have you Rolling On The Floor Laughing, or so I’ve heard.

I’ve also heard it makes an excellent [insert holiday] gift, so why risk it? Buy a bunch and spread the love around!
